Good Works Wednesday
A newsletter celebrating ASB progress, programs and people
At Associated Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, we work every day to help individuals build skills and gain access to the information, experiences and resources they need to live the lives they wish to lead. We are an agency for anyone, anywhere on the vision loss continuum and offer education, training, community-based enrichment opportunities and referrals to help them achieve their individual goals.
OCTOBER 6: Family, Friends and Professionals Training
Associated Services for the Blind is excited to offer an eight-week series of workshops beginning on Wednesday, October 6 at 11 a.m. that are designed to provide information, support and encouragement for those living or working with individuals who are blind or experiencing vision loss.
These workshops are also available to health care providers, employers, social service workers and anyone who would like to learn more about the social and emotional effects of blindness and vision loss.
If you are interested in participating or know anyone who may be interested, please email Community Training Specialist Lynn Heitz at LHeitz@asb.org or leave a message at 215-627-0600 X 824.
OCTOBER 7: Women’s Peer Support Group
ASB participants can join us on Thursdays from 10 – 11 a.m. starting on October 7 for our Women’s Peer Support Group where we will discuss issues facing women who are blind or living with vision loss.
If this sounds like a group that might interest the participants you work with, they can contact Linda Gaffney at LGaffney@asb.org to join!
OCTOBER 11: New Participant Orientation Group
Tom Barbella and Lynn Heitz recently started leading a new group designed for individuals who have recently completed an ASB Intake Appointment. This week they had five participants complete the first remote New Participant Orientation! We are extremely proud of Lynn and Tom who worked hard to make it meaningful for these participants and left them very invested in the group.
This orientation is designed to overview ASB’s services and discuss commonly accessed community resources. Lynn and Tom provide new participants with an opportunity to ask questions, get to know other new participants and ASB staff, and feel welcomed into the organization.
Lynn is currently doing outreach to the next group of participants, who will start on October 11. If any of the participants you work with are interested in this orientation, they can contact ASB’s Director of Participant Engagement and Outreach, Lexi Jones, at ajones@asb.org or 267-551-0561.
OCTOBER 20: Comcast Internet Essentials Partnership Program Q&A Session
ASB is hosting another Q&A session on its Comcast Internet Essentials Partnership Program, which offers free internet access for individuals who are living with vision loss. The next Q&A session will be held on Wednesday, October 20 at 10:30 a.m. and will answer all questions individuals have about the program and eligibility.
