Good Works Wednesday

A newsletter celebrating ASB progress, programs and people

At Associated Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, we work every day to help individuals build skills and gain access to the information, experiences, and resources they need to live the lives they wish to lead. We are an agency for anyone, anywhere on the vision loss continuum and offer education, training, community-based enrichment opportunities, and referrals to help them achieve their individual goals.

ASB’s Access Technology BARD Mobile Workshop

With the cold weather and the holidays upon us, there is no better time to settle in and read a good book. Utilizing BARD (Braille and Audio Reading Download), is a great way to dive into some new reading!

BARD (Braille and Audio Reading Download) is a web-based, password-protected service that provides access to thousands of audio and braille books, magazines and music scores available from the National Library Service. The service is available to registered users of the braille and talking book program through their local braille and talking book library.

This workshop is a part of ASB’s Access Technology programming. It is designed for participants who have a firm working knowledge of the iOS environment. The participant will be trained to use iOS voiceover navigation gestures to access the following areas of the BARD mobile app and become familiar with introductory concepts of how to navigate the BARD mobile interface, including the Bookshelf, Get Books, Settings and Now Reading tabs.

If this sounds of interest to the participants you work with, consider referring them to our BARD Mobile Workshop Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are so thankful for all of YOU! Thank you for all of the work that you do for ASB and our participants. We are incredibly grateful to have such a dedicated staff, especially throughout these past few months as we continue to work virtually through the pandemic. Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
