PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 6, 2020) – Associated Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ASB), Philadelphia’s leading provider of education, training, and support services for this population, announced the appointment of Dr. Jacqueline Candido, Alice Donavin Day, Karen L. Graves and Dr. Ranjoo Prasad to its Board of Directors.
“We are so pleased to announce the appointments of our talented new board members,” said President and CEO Karla McCaney. “Our new board members will contribute their diverse experiences in academia, nonprofits, business organization, marketing, social work and ophthalmology to strengthen our wide array of services. We are thrilled to welcome our new members to the Board, especially as we continue to evolve our reach, programming and impact during the pandemic.”

Dr. Jacqueline P. Candido is the Senior Director of Program Design and Delivery at the University of Pennsylvania College of Liberal & Professional Studies. Candido provides business, technology and academia experience to the board, along with her extensive education in visual impairments and accessible technology. Candido boasts almost 20 years of work in the virtual online education sector, which will help guide ASB as it continues to build out its remote learning capacity both during and after the pandemic. Candido earned her doctorate in educational leadership and learning technology at Drexel University and both her master’s in education and bachelor’s degree in information systems at St. Joseph’s University.

With a nonprofit and education background, Alice Donavin Day joins the board with experience in marketing, advertising and psychotherapy. Donavin Day is currently an Executive Coach at the Wharton School of Business, where she provides coaching support for MBA and Executive MBA students. In addition to her educational background, Donavin Day provides the board with marketing and advertising insight, based on her experience as President and Founder of Automotive Marketing and Advertising. Donavin Day has previously volunteered with the Inaugural Development Committee for Independence Mission Schools, the Auction Committee for the Free Library of Philadelphia and has served on the Board of Trustees as the Development Committee Chair for the Pennsylvania Ballet. Donavin Day earned her master’s degree in social work at Catholic University of America and her bachelor’s at Seton Hill University.
Karen L. Graves MBA, MPA, Chief Compliance Officer at Spectrum Health Services, joins the ASB Board of Directors having worked more than 20 years in nonprofit accounting and organizational operations. Graves’ current roles at Spectrum Health, as an adjunct professor at Wilmington University, and as a financial, HR and business operations consultant provide relevant expertise for ASB operations support. Graves earned her master of public policy and administration from Walden University, her master of business administration from University of Phoenix and her bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Eastern University.
Dr. Ranjoo Prasad, Clinical Associate and Director of Vision Rehabilitation at the Scheie Eye Institute and Staff Optometrist at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center also joins the Board of Directors. At the Scheie Eye Institute, Prasad focuses on general optometry, contact lens and low-vision rehabilitation of a diverse patient population in a tertiary care setting. She teaches low-vision rehabilitation to ophthalmology residents from Scheie Eye Institute and Temple University and leads implementation of the vision-loss support group. Prasad earned her doctor of optometry degree at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and completed her residency at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Prasad earned her bachelor’s in biology from Rutgers University.
